Listening: Embarrassingly, "Crazy"
by Britney Spears is on. I actually like that song - y'all discovered
my shameful secret.
Reading (perhaps quality): Goffman's "Presentation
of the Self in Everyday Life". I'm reading it slowly - it's dense.
Reading (definitely pulp): Finished the
Bertrice Small trashy romance. Trying to decide what next.
Drinking: Diet Coke.

Eyebrows are very important to me.
I can forget to brush my hair in the morning (I usually put it up straight
out of the shower anyways) but I never leave the house without checking
to see if my eyebrows need tweezing. I've got dark thick hair and still
darker strong eyebrows; they're an important part of my look and my
identity. Threatening to shave the other's eyebrows while they slept
was the big threat when SS the SS and I lived
together. I still get chills at the idea.
But I've
been at a bit of a loss with my brows for a while. I mean the weren't
doing anything crazy but nothing inspiring either. But Marie
took me on Saturday to the woman who does her brows and I was/am a convert.
She managed to do something pretty fly with my usually unusually unmanageable
brows. The things haven't been so groomed in a long time.
Maybe you can't appreciate the joy
a good brow wax can bring. That's okay. For me there's something so
rewarding in being able to control something small yet important.
Busy weekend and was debating on whether
I wanted to go back and write the details. The highlights? An unexpectedly
late night out with Talullah - drinks at Nora
(she knows the bartender, chef) where we got martinis that practically
knocked me off the chair and a desert plate where every phenomenal taste
was better than the last (and that was the food, not the gin talking).
Then spending the day shopping and hair-cutting (and inch and a half
- my hair's so damn short now) and brow-waxing with Marie.
After that we went to Wolftrap to see Jonatha Brooke (wonderful!), then
to Centreville to hear 3-String's band. The
place reminded me of something someone said about the bars in Silicon
Valley - that the odds are good but the goods are odd. The Shark Club
was definitely like that, Marie and I had
a bunch of strange drunk men try to get a groove on with us which though
unwelcome was still flattering. Was the kind of place, the kind of crowd
where it would have been more insulting if they hadn't tried to freak
us.

Doing (life and related tasks): Long day
at work doing necessary but tedious work. Got a lot accomplished at
least, and got to visit the visit the Manuscript Room (looks just like
the Bancroft - makes me homesick for school)
Doing (crafty stuff): Finished the scarf
for Sarah last night.
Wanting: for the damn humidity levels outside
to go down and UPS to just leave the packages at the door rather than
making me go and pick them up.
Anticipating: have a busy week - looking
forward to catching up with a bunch of people I haven't seen a while
(okay, a few weeks).
