Sometimes things work out just as they
should.

Tonight was heading home after a quiet
but fun girls night out. Had been feeling a bit down - it was a great
time but with lots-of-work at work, déjà-vu-feelings in
my romantic life and some-other-big-things my mood has been tetchy,
then I haven't been sleeping well and was exhausted. So I cut out early
(about midnight), feeling lame for not being more of a rock star.
On the cab ride my phone rang, I assumed
it was some girlfriends letting me know where they were heading next
but it was my friend Mark. He's about to start
a new job and is going to be near impossible to talk to for a while
- for the last few weeks everyone in his huge social circle has been
crowding in for face time. Saw him last night for a movie night but
didn't get much of a chance to really talk with him, I'd assumed that
was the last I'd see him until he re-emerged.
But it was him on the phone and we
talked. It was a great conversation - sweet and funny and close. I would
have never heard the phone had I stayed at the club, would have never
been able to carry on a conversation. So while I could have dealt with
a crazier time out, if having a quiet one was what allowed me that goodbye
to him... well it was more than worth it.
